Lady Bluebirds Fly vs Cougars
Goessel Basketball – @ Goessel v. Centre Tuesday, February 4, 2025
Goessel is the opposite corner of Marion County from Centre High School. Travelers heading north find that it
takes nearly 40 minutes to get from the SW corner to the northern edge of one of Kansas’ largest counties. On
a cold February Tuesday spitting freezing rain, Goessel took on the northern opponents in a Wheat State
contest at Goessel. This would not be close contest, with the Bluebirds flying past the visiting Cougars 45-12.
The Bluebirds hit 8 from downtown against the steady 2-1-2 Centre zone.
It was 9-1 after the first stanza and 24-5 at the half. The Cougars hit their first field goal at 4:24 in the 2 nd
quarter. Goessel showed good ball movement around the perimeter and found open looks at will. The 2 nd
quarter went 15-4, the third 14-5 and the final (in running clock) 7-2.
Aimee Funk led the Bluebird scoring tonight with 19 including four spectacular finishes from well beyond WNBA
three point range. Abbigail Funk had three giant threes, was a perfect 4 for 4 from the line and finished with
13 for the 2 nd straight night. Hailey Rosfeld popped in two 13 footers, Delaney Duerksen caressed in a long
bomb for 3, and Logan Bryant, Isabelle Alderfer, and Jenna Flaming each corralled a field goal. Also putting in
key minutes tonight were Brooklyn Wuest, Abigail Johnson, Jayley Schmidt and Claire Claassen.
